Rishi Sunak is the first british prime minister that is richer than the monarch in the Buckingham Palace. Sunak made his wealth at the investment bank Goldman Sachs and the hedge funds TCI and Theleme Partners. Most of his wealth comes from his wife Akshata Murty, who is the daughter of an Indian software billionaire. Both own a combined fortune of about £730m – roughly double the estimated £300m-£350m wealth of King Charles III. That fortune has some people asking if he is too rich to understand the day-to-day struggles of voters.
Rishi Sunak has many other firsts too: He is Britain’s first prime minister of color, the first person to lead the U.K. who professes a faith other than Christianity, and he is the youngest prime minister to take power in modern history.
