If you ain’t first in publications, you’re last

For the first time in modern history, China has overtaken the United States in terms of the total number of science publications, according to statistics compiled by the US National Science Foundation (NSF). In 2016 China published more than 426,000 scientific studies, accounting for about 19 per cent of the international total, while the US came in second place, with about 409,000 published papers.
